December 17th:

Yesterday
	11:54am	AM switching hotels tonight to the SHeraton near the airport to minimize the risk of problems with flights out tomorrow (snow storm by ice
	11:55am	likely tomorrow, so will be trying to get an earlier flight to SFO, to be sure I do get the flight to SYD later)
	2:55pm	Checked in at the Sheraton at the airport, taken my rental car back, & will get shuttle to the airport tomorrow
	3:30pm	Internet connection in hotel room is attrocious, so probbly won’t be accessing emails, updating this until I get to the airport (PDX / SFO)

	4:01am	Am booked on the 10am flight out of Portland. It’s snowing lightly.

	8:25am	Underwhelmed with United’s service in SFO.
	8:25am	It’s a gorgeous sunny day in San Francisco – clear blue skies. If I had just a bit more time it would be great to get out in it.
	8:26am	The airport itself at SFO has improved markedly since I was here last – modern terminals.
	8:28am	One of the bizarre things, in light of security risks, was catching a shuttle from domestic to internatio., going across the runways on way
	8:29am	Have walked around the terminal and had some lunch, and am now into “filling in time” mode for another 8 hours or so

	9:33am	About to go walking around the terminal for a change of scenery. And get tired of sitting still.
	10:12am	Soaking up some sun, sipping a cappuccino, nibbling on a florentine. Good to feel the warmth in the sun after many cold days.

	3:24pm	Dinner out with a friend: tomato mushroom soup followed by steamed clams. Good talking, good food.
	4:12pm	The Christmas lights on Main St Gresham looked so pretty tonight, with the snow on the roads.

	4:40pm	Currently -5C (-13C with windchill), heading to a max of -3C tomorrow.
Today
	1:12am	It’s -5C, going to a high of -7C, so it’s only going to get colder today! A clear, sunny day, so it will all still look pretty.
	1:16am	More snow is forecast tomorrow.
	1:33am	Meeting in a coffee shop for the first meeting of the day. Then more meetings. Then a long lunch out with the managers.

December 15th:

Yesterday
	1:24pm	It’s still -4C, & no snow falling at the moment. It’s actually good that it’s staying below freezing so ice doesn’t form. Wind is blowing
	1:25pm	the dry snow around. It’s forecast to stay below freezing until the end of the week, with more snow on and off.
	1:26pm	Had a mostly lazy afternoon, watching back-to-back House episodes!

	1:35am	Back in the office today, the last 2 days in the office. Will be interesting to see how icy the snowy roads have become.
	2:46am	Well the road to the office was OK – as with any icy / snowy roads, it’s just a matter of being careful.

	8:37am	Had a superb lunch out with a friend, with wonton soup, salt & pepper squid & choy sum. Mmmm…
	8:38am	The sun is out, and the snow sparkles. Would be a good day to head to Mt Hood.

December 14th:

Yesterday
	2:23pm	Spent the afternoon with a friend in Oregon City. No snow yet, but maybe later this evening. Been driving around the streets looking at the
	2:23pm	Christmas lights around the hotel – very pretty! Am going to go out and explore some more
	3:18pm	About to have a cheesesteak sandwich (thin-sliced prime rib & melted cheese) at McMenamins
Today
	2:32am	Finally…. SNOW! There is a light dusting of snow. More expected by 10pm – 2-4 inches, maybe more.
	2:33am	It’s now -1C, with wind feeling like -13C, going to a max of 1C. It’s going to be an interesting day! Whoop whoop!
	4:12am	It’s beautiful driving around with great big snowflakes swhirling around, not seeing clearly far ahead.
	4:16am	And now indoors, warm, waiting for breakfast, watching it fall, looking like I’m in a snowdome
	4:18am	Breakfast is at Sympatico in Gresham – french toast again mmm

	6:17am	I love the crunch crunch sound of walking on fresh, powdery, snow
	6:19am	After breakfast I stopped off at GI Joes to buy a hat & waterproof gloves, and just in that time it took to buy those there was about 3/4
	6:19am	inch of snow on the car. I see cars doing silly things, including one which had spun completely around & was up on the pavement.
	6:19am	Some people drive like it’s normal weather! It’s not!
	6:34am	Currently -3C, and with wind chill the weather people say it really feels like -17C

	11:33am	Heading for the hotel, via Safeway to buy some snacks, then I plan to not touch a computer tonight. My brain is overloaded & needs a rest.

Today
	2:59am	Today the plan is to head out for breakfast, then down to Frys (computer store) at Wilsonville, then to visit a friend in Oregon Ctity.
	3:00am	No snow in Portland itself yet, but lots in the mountains. Sometime today / tonight it is likely there will be snow, & more tomorrow.
	4:12am	About to have cinnamon french toast with an egg over easy & bacon at cafe in Gresham
	4:17am	It’s quite a bit cooler today – just a few degrees currently
	7:48am	Amazed & tempted at Frys (geek superstore). Recharging with a gingerbread latte

	2:07pm	Swapped vehicles (now have an SUV) & now about to have a BBQ chicken burger & steak fries at Red Robin
	2:10pm	Still debating whether or not to go away for the weekend – snow likely wherever I am

	3:23pm	Dinner was great – Whiskey River BBQ Chicken Burger with onion straws. Am enjoying proper BBQ sauce at every opportunity -

	3:46pm	There are blizzard warnings from Fri 10am in the Cascades, bringing by Sunday the coldest weather since 2004. Portland is forecast to have
	3:50pm	snow beginning Fri night & on into Monday. Forecast max for Mon & Tue is -3C & min -8C. It will be intrestng to see how it all unfolds!
	3:52pm	It would be good to have some snow here – and if it’s only at higher elevations, that’s where I’ll go! This morning they were saying there’d
	3:52pm	be 2-3 ft of snow falling at Pass level.

	1:23am	More meetings, more talking. Progress is being made, so it’s not just meetings for the sake of meetings. Hopefully it’s laying the

	1:47pm	A full day. Very tired, so just having dinner in restaurant next to hotel.

	3:55am	Back in the Portland office today. More talking, more meetings.

	6:16am	Out for lunch with a friend (Donna). Probably going to an Asian restaurant somewhere. Will be good to catch up!

December 10th:

	11:49am	Four Points Sheraton Portland East
	11:54am	Talk talk talk… that’s all that we’ve been doing today. We’ve made some progress, but it’s going to take more days of talking to get
	11:54am	where we want. Today really sets us up for the next few days, with lots more talking needed.
	11:56am	Dinner will be out with a bunch of the guys at the Roadhouse Grill, a place where you throw the peanut shells on the floor while waiting for
	11:56am	the meail big enough to feed a hungry family of 4 to arrive
	3:36pm	For appetizers we had Texas Egg Rolls – Cream cheese & chopped jalapeno cocooned in wonton skins, served with jalapeno dipping sauce
	3:38pm	Then I had the Original Roadhouse Grill Bourbon Tri-Tip (10 oz) – hearty steak marinated in bourbon glaze & slow roasted overnight – tender
	3:39pm	served with a huge baked sweet potato with butter & brown sugar, coleslaw, fresh baked rolls with honey butter.
	3:40pm	Didn’t get through the steak, but it was very tasty & tender
	4:25pm	Still very weird re-visiting places I’ve known so well. Don’t think I can quite get my arms around how I feel about all of that.
	4:25pm	So many beautiful scenes. So many places I have loved.
	4:27pm	Snow is expected over theweekend, coming down to valley floor levels, which of course would be pretty, but make traveling interesting.
Today
	2:00am	Another day begins. Lots more talking. Let’s hope that more comes out of this than just talk, that real change begins!

	1:26am	The next two days will be spent in off-site meetings with the global IT management team. So it’s all work work work!

	1:27am	It is weird going back to the places I know so well, restaurants, outdoor locations, and so on. There is so much I loved about living here.
	1:28am	Everyone in the office is very welcoming and friendly. If I just wandered around the office more I’d spend all day talking, catching up!
	1:28am	These next 2 days are the real reason for the entire trip, so this is crunch time, discussing how we can do things better, how do we
	1:29am	do things in a go-forward basis, what’s regional and what’s global, who has control over what, etc.
